How Many Times Did Prophet Muhammad Perform Umrah?

In Islam, worships have mainly two types; Fard (essential) and Sunnah (non-compulsory) Fard worship is essential for every person while Sunnah worship is non-essential for every person but anyone can get the reward for this worship who will perform it. Sunnah is such act, whom our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) performed in his life.

Umrah is a Sunnah in Islam while Hajj is an essential part of Islam and Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. Hajj can only be performed at specific days of Dahul Hijjah, as all worships (obligatory) are offered at a specific time, for example, Salah (prayer), Fasting of Ramadan, and Zakat (Charity). Umrah can be performed at any time of year except for the days of Hajj and Umrah can be performed multi times in one year.

Many Muslims perform Umrah all the year because the Umrah removes sins and poverty. During the Umrah, Muslim make themselves as a guest of Allah because they perform the rituals of Tawaf around the house of Allah (Kaaba) and if anyone can perform the Umrah in Ramadan then he/she can get such rewards which are equal the rewards of Hajj.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) performed four Umrah and one Hajj in life.

In this regard, a Sahih-hadith is mentioned here.

Said to Anas bin Malik: “How many times did the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) perform Hajj?”
He said: “He performed one Hajj and he performed 4 Umrah: An Umrah during Dhul-Qadah; the Umrah of Al-Hudaibiyah, and Umrah with his hajj, and an Umrah from Al-Jiirranah when he divided up the war spoils of Hunain.”  (Jami at-Tirmidhi-821)

Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) performed 4 Umrahs at different times which is briefly described.

The first Umrah:

Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) performed first Umrah after the Treaty of Hudaibiyah. In the 6th Hijri, leaders of Quraish did not allow Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and other Muslims to enter the city of Makkah. Prophet (PBUH) changed way and they made their route to a place called Hudaibiyah at the boundary of the city. At that time, an agreement had been settled between Muslims and Quraishs which was called Sulah – Hudaibiyah.

In this agreement, there were some points.

1: There would be no fighting between Quraishs and Muslims for the next ten years.
2: Any person or tribe had a right to freely choose the way of Islam and way of Quraish.
3: If any inhabitants of Makkah went to Madina then Muslims would return him to Makkah and if any Muslim of Madina went to Makkah, he would not be returned.
4: The Muslim will perform Umrah next year but at that time, they can not be performed Umrah then Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) came out of Ihram, shaved his head, sacrificed his animal and went back to Madina and this is counted as an Umrah.

The second Umrah:

As it was contained in the agreement of Hudabiya that Muslims can perform Umrah next year. In 8th Hijri, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) performed 2nd Umrah with his companions and therefore, they spent three days in Makkah.

The third Umrah:

This Umrah was be done by Muhammad (PBUH) with his companions in 8th Hijri, after returning from the Battle of Hunain.

The fourth Umrah:

In the 10thh Hijri, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) performed Umrah along the Hajj and this Umrah is called Umrah-ul-Tamattu. Umrah has two types Umrah-ul-Mufradah and Umrah-ul-Tamattu.

Umrah-ul-Mufradah:

This type of Umrah can be performed at any time of year except for the days of Hajj.

Umrah-ul-Tamattu:
